Strawberry Almond Butter Toast

  • Author: Jessica

Ingredients

  • Whole-Grain Bread: 2 thick slices. The foundation of our recipe. A sturdy, slightly nutty whole-grain or sourdough bread provides the perfect canvas and holds up well to the toppings.
  • Creamy Almond Butter: 4 tablespoons. Choose a high-quality, natural almond butter. The creaminess provides a luscious texture that contrasts beautifully with the crisp toast.
  • Fresh Strawberries: ½ cup, hulled and thinly sliced. These are the star of the show, providing a burst of natural sweetness, a vibrant color, and a juicy texture.
  • Honey or Maple Syrup: 1 teaspoon for drizzling. This adds a touch of glossy sweetness that complements the tartness of the berries and the richness of the nut butter.
  • Chia Seeds or Hemp Hearts: 1 teaspoon for sprinkling. An optional but highly recommended addition for a pleasant textural crunch and a boost of nutrients.
  • Pinch of Sea Salt: A tiny sprinkle. This might seem counterintuitive, but a small pinch of salt enhances all the other flavors, making the strawberries taste sweeter and the almond butter nuttier.

Instructions

  1. Toast the Bread to Perfection: Begin by toasting your two slices of whole-grain bread. The goal is a uniform, golden-brown exterior with a still-soft interior. You can use a pop-up toaster for speed and convenience. Alternatively, for a more even, crisp texture, place the slices on a baking sheet in an oven preheated to 375°F (190°C) for 3-4 minutes per side. For a rustic, slightly charred flavor, you can even toast the bread in a dry skillet or grill pan over medium heat.
  2. Spread the Almond Butter: As soon as the toast is ready and still wonderfully warm, generously spread 2 tablespoons of creamy almond butter onto each slice. The residual heat from the toast will gently warm the almond butter, making it even creamier and easier to spread, allowing it to melt ever so slightly into the nooks and crannies of the bread.
  3. Arrange the Strawberries: Now for the artistic part. Take your thinly sliced strawberries and arrange them on top of the almond butter. You can create a simple, overlapping pattern, a beautiful fanned-out design, or simply scatter them for a more rustic look. Ensure you get a bit of strawberry in every future bite.
  4. Add the Finishing Touches: Drizzle the teaspoon of honey or maple syrup evenly over the two slices of toast. The gentle sweetness is the perfect finishing note. Finally, sprinkle the chia seeds, hemp hearts, or even some flaked almonds over the top. This not only adds a delightful crunch but also elevates the visual appeal of your toast. The final, crucial step is that tiny pinch of sea salt to make all the flavors pop.
