  • Author: Sarah

Ingredients

Scale

Before you start baking, gather the following ingredients. Ensuring you have everything on hand will make the process smooth and enjoyable.

For the Dough:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt

For the Filling:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

For the Maple Pecan Topping:

  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup pecans, toasted and roughly chopped

Instructions

Follow these steps carefully to create your own batch of sticky sweet maple pecan buns.

Preparing the Dough:

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Knead the Dough: Knead the mixture on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Making the Filling and Topping:

  1. Prepare the Filling: Mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl until well combined.
  2. Prepare the Topping: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the maple syrup and brown sugar until smooth. Pour this mixture into a greased baking pan and sprinkle with toasted pecans.

Assembling the Buns:

  1. Roll Out the Dough: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
  2. Spread the Filling: Evenly spread the cinnamon sugar filling over the rolled-out dough.
  3. Shape the Buns: Starting from one long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces.
  4. Second Rise: Arrange the pieces in the prepared baking pan, cut side down. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.

Baking:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake: Bake the buns for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Cool: Allow the buns to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before inverting them onto a serving plate.
