Banana Nutella Roll-Ups

  • Author: Jessica

Ingredients

Scale

Here’s what you’ll need to create these delightful Banana Nutella Roll-Ups:

  • 4 Large Flour Tortillas (8-10 inch): Choose soft, pliable tortillas. These form the base of our roll-ups, holding all the deliciousness inside. Burrito-size works best for easier rolling.
  • 1/2 cup Nutella (or other chocolate-hazelnut spread): The star of the show! This provides the rich, creamy, chocolatey-hazelnut flavour that pairs perfectly with bananas. Adjust the amount slightly based on your preference.
  • 2 Medium-Sized Ripe Bananas: Select bananas that are ripe (yellow with a few brown spots) but still firm enough to hold their shape when sliced. Ripeness equals sweetness and flavour.
  • 12 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter (or cooking spray): For grilling or pan-frying the roll-ups. Butter adds flavour and helps achieve that beautiful golden-brown, slightly crispy exterior. Cooking spray is a lighter alternative.

Instructions

Follow these simple steps to make your Banana Nutella Roll-Ups:

  1. Prepare the Bananas: Peel the ripe bananas. Slice them lengthwise down the middle, and then slice each half lengthwise again, creating four long spears from each banana (or simply slice them into rounds about 1/4-inch thick if you prefer). Set aside.
  2. Warm the Tortillas (Optional but Recommended): Lightly warm the tortillas for about 10-15 seconds in the microwave or a dry skillet. This makes them more pliable and less likely to tear when rolling.
  3. Spread the Nutella: Lay one tortilla flat on a clean work surface. Spread approximately 2 tablespoons of Nutella evenly over the surface, leaving about a 1/2-inch border around the edge to prevent excessive oozing during cooking.
  4. Add the Banana: Arrange banana slices (either spears or rounds) in a line near one edge of the tortilla. If using spears, place two spears end-to-end across the tortilla. If using rounds, create a dense line of slices. Don’t overfill, or rolling will be difficult.
  5. Roll it Up: Carefully but tightly roll the tortilla up, starting from the edge with the bananas. Try to keep the roll snug to hold the filling securely.
  6. Repeat: Repeat steps 3-5 with the remaining tortillas, Nutella, and banana slices.
  7. Prepare the Pan: Place a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add the butter and allow it to melt and lightly coat the bottom of the pan. If using cooking spray, lightly coat the pan now.
  8. Cook the Roll-Ups: Carefully place the roll-ups seam-side down in the heated skillet. Cook for 2-4 minutes per side, turning gently with tongs or a spatula, until they are golden brown and slightly crispy, and the Nutella inside is warm and melted. Adjust the heat as necessary to prevent burning – medium to medium-low heat often works best.
  9. Serve: Remove the cooked roll-ups from the skillet. Let them cool for a minute or two as the filling will be very hot. You can serve them whole, or slice them in half diagonally or into smaller pinwheels. Serve immediately and enjoy!
